Barkot is a town and a nagar palika in Uttarkashi District in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is located on the banks of the Yamuna river. Barkot is the last big town near Yamunotri Dham. There are many village near Barkot city Uprari, Sara, Chakargaon, Paunti, Sunaldi, Dandagaon, Chatanga.

Barkot is situated 395 kms from Delhi which can be covered in 11-12 hours drive. Taxis and buses are easily available to Barkot from Mussoorie, Uttarkashi, Rishikesh, and Tehri.

By Air

Jolly Grant is the nearest airport to Barkot situated at a distance of 161 kms in Dehradun, the capital city. Barkot is well connected by motorable roads with Jolly Grant Airport. Taxis are available from Jolly Grant airport to Barkot.

By Rail

The nearest railheads to Barkot are Rishikesh and Dehradun. Dehradun is situated 132 kms and Rishikesh is located 160 kms from Barkot. Buses and Taxis are easily available to Barkot from major destinations of Uttarakhand state like Rishikesh, Mussoorie, Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Tehri, etc.

Hanuman Chatti is located at the confluence of the Hanuman Ganga and Yamuna rivers. It is the commencement point of the trek to two popular destinations Yamunotri and Dodi Tal. Yamunotri is situated 13km from Hanuman Chatti which has to be covered by foot or on ponies. Jeeps are also available upto Janki Chatti which is 6km from Hanuman Chatti. Hanuman Chatti is the confluence of Hanuman Ganga and Yamuna River.

Surya Kund, Yamunotri, is a sacred, steaming hot spring near the Yamunotri Temple in Uttarakhand, known for its high temperatures (around 88°C/190°F) and medicinal mineral-rich waters, where pilgrims boil rice/potatoes as prasad (holy offering) and believe it offers healing, connecting to the Sun God, Surya, the mythical father of the Yamuna River.

Thousands of tourist visit to Yamunotri temple of Goddess Yamuna from April to October. Yamunotri Temple was constructed by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal. The second most holy river of India, River Yamuna originates at Yamunotri.
