Overview

Tungnath peacefully adorned on the Chandranath Parvat is the highest Shiva temple in the world and the highest Panch Kedar temple of Uttarakhand. It is the third (Tritiya Kedar) in the pecking order of the Panch Kedars. Tungnath is perched at an elevation of 3,680 metres above sea level and is considered to be more than 1,000 years old.

How to Reach Us

By Bus

Tungnath can be approached from Kund-Gopeshwar road up to Chopta about 212 kms from Rishikesh via the Chamoli-Gopeshwar-Chopta route. Buses and taxi service are easily available along the route. From Chopta, you have to take the short 3 km trek route to reach the Tungnath temple.

By Air

The Jolly Grant airport at 223 kms from Tungnath is the closest airport. Jolly Grant Airport is well connected to Delhi with daily flights.

By Rail

Rishikesh railway station located at a distance of 205 kms from Tungnath is the nearest.

Chandrashila

Chandrashila is the peak of the ridge hosting the famous Tungnath temple. It literally means "Moon Rock". It is located at a height of about 4,000 metres (13,000 ft) above sea level. This peak provides enchanting vistas of the Himalayas, including Nandadevi, Trisul, Kedar Peak, Bandarpunch and Chaukhamba peaks. There are various legends associated with this place. Chandrashila treks are one of the most popular treks among trekkers seeking the beauty of nature sans the crowd. 

Chopta

Chopta

Chopta is a small region of meadows and evergreen forest area which is a part of kedarnath wildlife sanctuary located in Uttarakhand state, India and a base for trekking to Tungnath, third temple of Panch Kedar, which lies 3.5 kilometres away. Chopta is a picturesque hamlet which is still unexplored by travelers, is also famous as "Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand". Wake up with cool salubrious breeze and chirping of birds in Chopta which is a far cry from the blaring horns of the cities.

This place, situated 7km from Chopta on Chopta – Gopeshwar road is spread over an area of 5 square kilometres. It is an ideal place for animal lovers and those looking for rare Himalayan wildlife.

Sari Village

Sari Village

Sari Village is a scenic hamlet at a distance of about 20 km before Chopta hill station. The village is enclosed by oak and rhododendron trees and resides calmly in the lap of the Himalayas. Sari village or Saari Gaon is the base camp for a very beautiful lake Deorial Tal which is only 2.5 kilometers away from here. Many times when all the hotels in Chopta are closed due to snowfall, then you can get hotels and homestays in Sari Region for your stay.
