Uttarkashi that literally suggests "Kashi of the North" is also nicknamed as "Somya Kashi" and "Shivnagri". Like Kasi, the town of Uttarkashi also houses the sacred Vishwanath temple. This holy shrine features a copper trident, having a circumference of 1 meter. The quaint town of Uttarkashi is highly revered for its temples that are dedicated to Rishi Parashurama, Datatryea, Goddess Annapurna Devi, Goddess Kali and Bhairon. It is also popular for its numerous ashrams that are the heavenly abode of the ascetics, sages, and hermits.

Perched at a height of 3,600 meters, Chaainsheel Bugyal is a hidden destination in Uttarakhand that has eluded trekkers for a long time. Lying on the border of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, the lush green meadows at Chaisheel valley in the Uttarkashi district offers uninterrupted views of the majestic Himalayan peaks of Bandarpoonch, Kalanag, and Swargarohini to name a few.
In regional language Bugyal means ‘high altitude meadow’. Dayara Bugyal is situated at an elevation of 3,048mts affording splendid view of the Himalayas. A picturesque small lake is also situated at Dayara Bugyal. The road to Dayara Bugyal branches off near Bhatwari and the vehicles can go up to Barsu village, from where an easy trek of 8kms commences.
Dodital is a freshwater lake in Uttarkashi district. Assi ganga rises from dodital and joins Bhagirathi. The confluence is at Gangori. To reach Dodital, From Uttarkashi, a short jeep ride of 19 kilometers will take you to Sangamchatti from where the 24 km trek to Dodital begins. This is a mostly gentle trek, with overnight halt options at the village of Agora or Bebra. At Agora, which is 6 km from Sangamchatti, one can stay at one of the private lodges or alternatively, camp at Bebra which is 8 km from Sangamchatti.
A historic, cliff-side wooden bridge in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district, a restored section of an ancient Indo-Tibet trade route used by the Bhotiya tribe for bartering goods like wool for salt and sugar before closing in 1962; it's now a popular adventure spot for trekking to Nelong Valley, offering stunning views and a thrilling walk along the Jadh Ganga River after a 2.5 km hike.

Kuteti Devi Temple is an ancient shrine located in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. The temple is situated on the Hari Parvat about 2 Kms from Uttarkashi. Kuteti Devi is main deity of the Kot Gram Khai of Uttarkashi. It is a very nice holy place to visit. Calm and peaceful environment with very nice view of Uttarkashi. The guardian deity of some major clans here, is situated close to the Vishwanath Temple, and is known to have been established by the son in law and daughter of King Kota.
The Maneri Dam is a concrete gravity dam built on the Bhagirathi River located at Maneri about 5.3 millimeters east of Uttarkashi. This dam diverts the water into a big tunnel and feeds 90 megawatts about 1,20,000 hp run of the river Tiloth Power Plant. The power station is stage one of the Maneri Bhali Hydroelectric Project which was planned in the 1960s.
The Shakti Peeth is significant shrines and pilgrimage destinations in Shaktism, the goddess-focused Hindu tradition. There is 52 or 108 Shakti peethas by various accounts, of which between 4 and 18 are named as Maha (major) in medieval Hindu texts. Where there is the mention of a temple, a very interesting Hindu mythological tale won't be behind. There is a trident, or a 'Trishul', 6 meters tall, 90 cm is diameter, made from a combination of iron and copper.
In the center of Uttarkashi, in a buzzing market is a beautiful temple of Lord Vishwanath which is worth a visit. Lord Vishwanath in the form of a shiva-linga has been residing in the Vishwanath temple in Uttarakashi in deep meditation since time immemorial, showering his blessings on all the living beings. Unlike the other Shiva temples, the shivalinga in this temple leans towards the South direction. The garbha-griha or sanctum sanctorum also houses the Deities of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Parvathi Devi.
