Overview

Badrinath is one of the four sites in India's Char Dham pilgrimage. Badrinath Dham is a religious place where both Nar and Narayan meet. It is located at an elevation of 3,133 meters above sea level in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state. This Dham was established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 9th century. The deity of Badrinath temple is Lord Vishnu. The temple is situated on the right bank of the holy Alaknanda River. The main entrance of the temple is decorated with beautiful paintings. The main gate is named as Singhdwar.

By Bus

Badrinath is well connected by motorable roads with major destinations of Uttarakhand state. Buses to Haridwar, Rishikesh and Srinagar are available from ISBT Kashmiri Gate. Buses and Taxis to Badrinath are easily available from major destinations of Uttarakhand state like Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Ukhimath, Srinagar, Chamoli etc. Badrinath is connected with Ghaziabad by National Highway 58.

By Air

Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest Airport to Badrinath situated at a distance of 314 kms. Jolly Grant Airport is well connected to Delhi with daily flights and Badrinath is well connected by motorable roads with Jolly Grant Airport. Taxis are available from Jolly Grant Airport to Badrinath.

By Rail

The nearest railway station to Badrinath is Rishikesh. The Rishikesh railway station is situated 295 kms before Badrinath on NH-58 and is well connected by Indian railway networks with major destinations of India. Trains to Rishikesh are frequent and Badrinath is well connected by motorable roads with Rishikesh. Bheem Pul is an enthralling and adventurous place with mythological importance. It is believed that one of the Pandava brothers called Bheema for his beloved wife Draupadi made this natural bridge. According to Hindu mythology, this was the place from where the Pandavas started their journey to heaven called Swargarohini. During this journey, Draupadi was unable to cross the river then Beema lifted a huge rock and placed it between the gorges. Later on, it was known as Bheem Pul.

The village is on the banks of the River Saraswati. It is situated at a height of around 3219 meters. The village is surrounded by Himalayan hills.

Mata Murti Temple is a sacred Hindu temple located at a distance of 3 km from Badrinath. This Devi temple is situated on the right bank of the Alaknanda River. The Mata Murti Temple is dedicated to the mother of Lord Narayan. According to folklore, Mata Murti requested Lord Vishnu to take birth as her son. Lord Vishnu granted her this wish by taking birth in the form of a twin, Nar and Narayan. Many tourists visit this temple during the annual fair, held in the month of August.

The Panch Dharas (five streams) which are famous in Badaripuri are Prahlad, Kurma, Bhrigu, Urvashi & Indira dhara. The most striking of these is the Indira dhara, about 1.5 km north of the town Badaripuri. Around the Tapt Kund there are five blocks of mythological importance called Narad, Narsimh, Barah, Garur & Markandeya Shilas (stone).

Pandukeshwar is a sacred place located in-route to abode of Lord Vishnu 'Badrinath' at an elevation of 1829 mtrs. At a distance of 18 km from Joshimath, Pandukeshwar, as per believe is the place where King Pandu, father of great Pandavas of Mahabharat epic, worshipped Lord Shiva. Yogadhyan Badri Temple, one of Sapta Badri or seven Badris and other is Lord Vasudev Temple.

This thermal spring is situated in the Badrinath temple in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The Taptakund is a natural hot water spring, having 45 degrees temperature.

Vyas Cave (Vyas Gufa) is a significant Hindu pilgrimage site in Mana village, near Badrinath in Uttarakhand, India, believed to be where the sage Vyas composed the Mahabharata epic with Lord Ganesha as scribe. This ancient cave, located by the Saraswati River, features a natural rock formation resembling stacked palm leaves (Pothi) and houses statues of Vyas, Ganesha, and Shuka Muni.
