By Bus

Gangotri is well connected by motorable roads with major destinations of Uttarakhand state. Situated at the end of NH-108, buses to Rishikesh are available from ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Delhi. Buses and Taxis to Gangotri are easily available from major destinations of Uttarakhand state like Rishikesh, Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarkashi, etc. You can also rent a car or hire a taxi to Gangotri from Delhi

By Air

Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest airport to Gangotri situated at a distance of 250 kms. Jolly Grant Airport is well connected to Delhi with daily flights and Gangotri is well connected by motorable roads with Jolly Grant Airport. you can also hire chopper services to Gangotri from Dehradun.

By Rail

The nearest railway station to Gangotri is Rishikesh 234 kms before Gangotri on NH-58 and is well connected by railway network with major destinations of India. Trains to Rishikesh are frequent. Taxis and buses are available from Rishikesh, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarkashi and many other destinations to Gangotri. Though the majority of trains are operational from Haridwar Railway Station/p>

Bhairon Ghati is located in Gangotri ( Bhairav Ghati is situated about 10 kms form Gangotri near the confluence of Jat Ganga and Bhagirathi river. This location is well connected by motorable roads). The temple of Bhairav Nath is surrounded by dense forest. Bhairon Temple can be reached after traveling by road from Lanka to Bhaironghati andby crossing the Jahanvi River on foot. Set between the river banks, there is a rock called Jadh Ganga Gorge. This rock is located beneath a girder bridge of National Highway 108 (NH 108).

Dharali is an exquisite hamlet situated at a distance of 3kms from Harsil. Dharali can be easily approached through motorable roads. Dharali is a picturesque hamlet nestled on the tranquil banks of river Ganges. This village is perched at an altitude of 648 metres above sea level and lies in Rajgarhi tehsil or block.  The fairy tale hamlet of Dharali is located at a favorable distance of 3 km from the main town. Dharali is famous for its glittering apple orchards & Rajma cultivation.

Gangotri remains opened from May and get closed on the day of Diwali festival.

Gomukh

Gomukh

Gomukh is the source of the Bhagirathi River in Gangotri Glacier, one of the primary headstreams of the Ganges River. The place is situated at a height of 13,200 ft (4,023 m) in Uttarkashi district. Gaumukh is the second-largest glacier of India with 30 kms in length and 4 kms in width, first one being Siachen. The Himalayan peaks visible during this trek are Shivling, Sudarshan, Meru, Bhagirathi sisters, Kharchkund and more.

Harsil

Harsil

Harsil is an unspoiled and hidden jewel of Uttarakhand state offering ample scope for people seeking peace and serenity in the lap of Himalayas. It is situated on the banks of Bhagirathi River at an elevation of 2620 mts above sea level. Harsil is located in a picturesque valley inhabited mainly by the Bhotia tribes. The temperature of Harsil remains pleasant during summers and reaches a freezing point during winters. 

Mukhwa

Mukhwa village is situated only 1km from Harsil. Mukhwa is the home of Goddess Gangotri during winters because Gangotri region is prone to heavy snowfall during winters. Devotees worship at Mukhwa village during winters when the doors of the Gangotri temple remains closed. This place is popular due to the fact that the idol of Goddess Ganga is brought down to Mukhba from the shrine of Gangotri in the Upper Himalayas and kept here throughout the winters as Gangotri becomes inaccessible due to heavy Snowfall.

Surya Kund in Gangotri is a sacred, picturesque waterfall of the Bhagirathi River, located about 500 meters from the main temple, known for its mesmerizing beauty where water falls from heights, often creating rainbows when sunlit, and linked to legends of Goddess Parvati bathing there to worship the Sun God, making it a spiritually significant and beautiful natural spot for pilgrims.

Tapovan

You can proceed to Tapovan and Nandanvan after reaching Gaumukh Glacier. Astounding views of Shivling and other major peaks of the Garhwal Himalayas are distinctly visible from Tapovan. Tapovan is a naturally diverse area carpeted by the lush green grasslands that are considered to be the best high-altitude grasslands in India.

You can proceed to Tapovan and Nandanvan after reaching Gaumukh Glacier. Astounding views of Shivling and other major peaks of the Garhwal Himalayas are distinctly visible from Tapovan.  It is surrounded by a mountain range called Varanavata. The tributaries of the river Bhageerathi flow around the mountain tract like two hands hugging the plains. It is here that Tapovan Kuti lies, the home of Swami Tapovan Maharaj. Built in 1936 by some of his devotees, its location is truly unique.
