Overview

Gwaldam is a little lethargic town, on the border of Garhwal and Kumaon. Set amidst green woods and apple orchards, it is located at an altitude of 1629 m. & 40 km away from Kausani, Gwaldam offers a fascinating view of Himalayan peaks Nanda Devi (7817 mt), Trishul (7120 mt) and Nanda Ghunti (6309 mt). Gwaldam is 22 km away from Baijnath. In Uttarakhand a large number of SSB guerilla trained persons are still ready to serve for any cause. At present a small unit of SSB is present at Gwaldam that runs occasional training courses. Major activities are shifted some elsewhere.

By Bus

Gwaldam is well connected by roads. It is accessible easily from both Garhwal and Kumaon regions. Buses and taxi are easily available to Gwaldam from major towns of Uttarakhand state. It is at a distance of 36 kms from Kausani, 22 kms from Baijnath, 45 kms from Bageshwar and only 149 Kms from Nainital

By Air

Pant Nagar is the nearest airport to Gwaldam, situated at a distance of 205 kms. Pantnagar Airport is a domestic airport connected to Delhi with four round trips every week. Taxis are easily available from Pantnagar International Airport to Gwaldam.

By Rail

The nearest railhead to Gwaldam is Kathgodam located 169 kms before Gwaldam. Kathgodam is well connected to major parts of India and taxis and buses are easily available from Kathgodam railway station to Gwaldam.

Roop Kund is situated at a height of 4800 m, in the midst of Trishul Massif. It is referred to as the mystery lake, due to the hundreds of frozen human bodies and skeletons found here, that are believed to be the remains of royal expeditionary, lost on their way to a pilgrimage. The route to Roop Kund passes through delightful alpine pastures and snow fields, offering magnificent views of the Trishul, Nanda Ghunti and Chaukhamba peaks.
