Overview

The famed Rajaji Tiger Reserve is both a national park and a tiger reserve. It is famous as an elephant habitat as there are around 600 elephants in Rajaji. Rajaji Tiger Reserve (earlier Rajaji National Park) is located in the Shivalik range of Himalayas and spread over 820 kms. It covers a part of over three districts of Uttarakhand: Haridwar, Dehradun and Pauri Garhwal. It now becomes the second Tiger Reserve of Uttarakhand after Corbet.

How to Reach Us

By Bus

Rajaji National park is well connected to many cities in the region by buses. Private and public buses offer services from Rajaji National Park to Haridwar (43 kms), Rishikesh (14 kms), Dehradun (21 kms) and also to Delhi (223 kms).

By Air

Nearest airport is Jolly Grant in Dehradun, 33 kms only. Jolly Grant Airport which is only a few kilometers away from the Northern Boundary of the Park has a daily 50 minutes flight from Delhi.

By Rail

Nearest railhead is at Haridwar (8 kms), Dehradun (24 kms) and Rishikesh. All these are connected to major states of India through the Indian Railway network.

Bharat Mata Mandir, which is also known as Mother India Temple, is one of the most visited temples located in Haridwar. The temple is dedicated to Bharat Mata by her devoted patriotic nationals. This religious shrine was founded by Swami Satyamitranand Giri. In 1983, this temple was inaugurated by Late Prime Minister, Smt. Indira Gandhi. As the conception of Bharat Mata predates the Partition of India, she is intended to represent "Aryavarta".

Chandi Devi Temple, Haridwar is a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Chandi Devi in the holy city of Haridwar in the Uttarakhand state of India. The temple is situated atop the Neel Parvat on the Eastern summit of the Sivalik Hills, the southernmost mountain chain of the Himalayas.  Located at 4 km from Haridwar, main idol in Chandi Devi temple was believed to be established by great saint Adi Shankaracharya in 8th AD.

The Pashulok Barrage is located on the Ganga River just south of Rishikesh in Dehradun. Chilla Dam Bridge is also called Pashulok Barrage. Road goes along side the Ganga Canal which makes this small journey into a pristine world ride. Locals already know this alternate route but outsiders or devotees who are rushing for Rishikesh from Hardiwar can take this route for easy and relaxed travelling.

The Crystal World located in Roorkee is an amusement park for the tourists to head on a sultry afternoon. One can rejuvenate in the cool artificial pools and water swings at the Crystal World and enjoy an array of recreational activities such as rain dance, water swings, joyful rides etc. Crystal World is a place for small and big alike, for adventurous as well as plain simple recreational rides. 

Har Ki Pauri

Har Ki Pauri

The Har Ki Pauri is the most famous ghat on the banks of the Ganges at Haridwar. It was built by king Vikramaditya. This is the ghat that witnesses the daily Aarti ritual and welcomes crowds which flock the banks for the Aarti. The Har ki Pauri is also known as Brahmakund and mythology suggests that Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu had visited this place during the Vedic times. A temple is built around a large foot mark which is believed to be the imprints of Lord Vishnu.

Jhilmil Jheel conservation Reserve is rich in fauna and flora diversity including five species of deer (Chital, Sambar, Barking deer, Hog deer and Swamp deer), Elephant, Nilgai, Common leopard and occasionally tiger are also seen in the area. There are migratory birds. Jhilmil Jheel Conservation Reserve (JJCR), about 20 minute drives from Haridwar, is renowned for swamp deer and the great diversity of birds. In the last few months, researchers have noticed about 120 bird species.

As per legends, here Lord Rama younger brother Lakshman crossed the river Ganga on a jute rope. Later on a jute rope bridge was built here to honour Lakshman. Till 1889, there was a 284 feet long hanging jute rope bridge which was washed away in floods of October 1924. After that a new bridge was built in 1930. Trayambakeshwar Temple, Sachha Akhileswar Mahadev Temple, Lakshman Temple and Sri Raghunathji's Temple are the major temples located near Lakshman Jhula.

Mansa Devi Temple is one of the most revered temples located at Bilwa Parvat near Haridwar. This temple is a holy place to worship Goddess Mansa, who is believed to be a form of Shakti, emerged from the mind of great Sage Kashyap. Mansa Devi temple is a famous Siddhpeeth and offers panoramic views of Haridwar city. There is a rope way service called Mansa Devi Udankhatola, available from Haridwar. Mansa Devi temple remains open from 8 am to 5 pm and visited by hundreds of devotee’s every day.

The ‘Dargah’ of Hazrat Makhdum Allauddin Ali Ahamed ‘Sabir’ on the outskirts of Roorkee town is a worth-visit-place for every visitor. It is situated towards the south of Haridwar. This place is one of the living examples of unity between the Hindu and Muslim religions. Famed for its mystical powers that fulfill the desires of the devout, the Dargah is visited by millions of devotees from all religions from India and abroad.

Rajaji National Park is situated along the hills and foothills of Shiwalik ranges in the Himalayan foothills and represents the Shiwalik eco-system. Combining three sanctuaries, namely Chilla, Motichur and Rajaji - Rajaji National Park is spread over the Pauri Garwal, Dehradun and Saharanpur districts of Uttarakhand. The Motichur and Rajaji sanctuaries are contiguous, and are separated from the Chilla Sanctuary to the south-east by the Ganges River and the Chilla River.

Ram Jhula

Ram Jhula was built by PWD with the help of Shivananda Ashram in 1980. Previously it was a hanging jute ropeway bridge without any pillars. There are markets on both sides of the Ram Jhula. Ramjhula is situated 3Km north of Rishikesh. It's a very popular place amongst people coming for religious purposes because it has very known Ashrams.
