Overview

Ukhimath is also written as Okhimath sometimes. Ukhimath is the home of Lord Kedarnath and Madhyamaheshwar during winters. Worship is performed at the Omkareshwar Temple here during winters, when the temple of Kedarnath remains closed. Ukhimath is mainly inhabited by the Rawal's who are the head priests (pundits) of Kedarnath. Snow capped peaks of the splendid Himalayan range are distinctly visible from Ukhimath.

Ukhimath is well connected by motorable roads with major destinations of Uttarakhand state. Buses to Rishikesh and Srinagar are available from ISBT Kashmiri Gate. Buses and Taxis to Ukhimath are easily available from major destinations of Uttarakhand like Rishikesh, Pauri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Gaurikund, Srinagar, Gopeshwar etc.

By Air

Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest Airport to Ukhimath situated at a distance of 198 kms. Jolly Grant Airport is well connected to Delhi with daily flights. Ukhimath is well connected by motorable roads with Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. Taxis are available from Jolly Grant Airport to Ukhimath.

By Rail

The nearest railway station to Ukhimath is Rishikesh. Rishikesh railway station is situated 174 kms before Ukhimath on NH-58. Rishikesh is well connected by railway networks with major destinations of India. Trains to Rishikesh are frequent. Ukhimath is well connected by motorable roads with Rishikesh. Taxis and buses are available from Rishikesh to Srinagar, Rudraprayag and Ukhimath.

Situated 2 km from Madhyamaheshwar, this holy shrine is a cluster of rocks. However, the journey to this place is quite captivating as picturesque views of various peaks can be seen from here such as Kedarnath, Neelkanth, Trishul, Kamet and Panchachuli over a small lake. The Budha Madmaheshwar is a hill temple which is visited by many devotees from distant places.

Chandrashila is the peak of the ridge hosting the famous Tungnath temple. It literally means "Moon Rock". It is located at a height of about 4,000 metres (13,000 ft) above sea level. This peak provides enchanting vistas of the Himalayas, including Nandadevi, Trisul, Kedar Peak, Bandarpunch and Chaukhamba peaks. There are various legends associated with this place. Chandrashila treks are one of the most popular treks among trekkers seeking the beauty of nature sans the crowd.

It is known for its ancient Vishwanath Temple dedicated to the god Shiva, which is similar to the one. The main temple of Guptkashi is dedicated to Lord Shiva as Vishwanath - "Lord of the Universe".

Kalimath is a village which is regarded as a divine place and shakti peeth. It lies at an altitude of around 6,000 feet (1,800 m) on the river Saraswati in the Himalayas, surrounded by the peaks of Kedarnath in Rudraprayag District of Uttarakhand, India. Kalimath is situated close to Ukhimath, and Guptakashi. Kalimath lies on lap of nature offering salubrious and divine environment. Goddess Kali Temple is located in Kalimath.

Madhyamaheshwar or Madmaheshwar is a Hindu temple dedicated to the Hindu god, Shiva, located in the Goundar village of Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand, India. Situated at an elevation of 3,497 m (11,473.1 ft), it is one of the Panch Kedar pilgrimage circuit, comprising five Shiva temples in the Garhwal region. The middle (madhya) or belly part or navel (nabhi) of Shiva, is worshipped at this temple, believed to be built by the Pandavas.

Mandakini River emerges from Chorabari Glacier near Kedarnath in Uttarakhand, India. This river is a tributary of Alaknanda River and is fed by Vasukiganga River at Sonprayag. The river merges with Kaliganga near Kalimath temple and with Madhyamaheshwar Ganga near Ukhimath. Mandakini River turns violent during monsoon season, causing havoc in the nearby villages and destroying the parts of national highway in Rudraprayag district.

Omkar Ratneshwar Mahadev

The temple is dedicated to Nag Devta and can be reached by trekking 1 km uphill from Saari village towards Devariya Tal. The temple architecture resembles the other famous temples in Uttarakhand such as Kedarnath and Tungnath in terms of mandap and garbhgriha. Inside the sanctum sanctorum, there is a lingam with a copper coiled around it which resembles a Naag (snake).

Sari Village is a scenic hamlet at a distance of about 20 km before Chopta hill station. The village is enclosed by oak and rhododendron trees and resides calmly in the lap of the Himalayas. Sari village or Saari Gaon is the base camp for a very beautiful lake Deorial Tal which is only 2.5 kilometers away from here. Many times when all the hotels in Chopta are closed due to snowfall, then you can get hotels and homestays in Sari Region for your stay.

This picturesque village is perched at an elevation of 1,980 and offers panoramic views of snow covered mountains of the beauteous Garhwal region. The architecture of this temple resembles to that of Badrinath shrine. Triyugi Narayan is the village where the wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati took place.

Tungnath Temple, located in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district, is the highest Shiva temple in the world and the third of the five sacred Panch Kedar shrines, famous for its stunning Himalayan views and challenging trek from Chopta. Believed to be thousands of years old and built by the Pandavas, it's dedicated to Lord Shiva, where his arms are worshipped.
